We would like to thank Bill and his team at Mike's Wrecker Services for providing a vehicle at St Charles High School to bring awareness to drunk, high, distracted driving. As prom and summer approach, Officer Ott and Ms. Jordan remind our students of the importance of safe driving and decision-making.
Alcohol is a leading cause of traffic fatalities. Drinking and driving kills 28 people a day in the U.S. — about one person every 52 minutes — according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), drivers on marijuana were about 25% more likely to be involved in a crash than drivers without the drug in their system.
Distracted driving among teens aged 15-17 has been shown to decrease when the number of passengers in the vehicle is limited. By limiting the number of passengers, fatalities from distracted driving decreased by 21% with zero passengers and 7% when there was one passenger.
Distracted driving was responsible for an estimated 8% of fatal crashes, 14% of injury crashes, and 13% of all police-reported motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2020
The age group with the highest percentage of fatalities from distracted driving was ages 15-20, representing 7% of the total fatalities.
Registration Night For The St. Charles Community Schools Fitness Center
When: Tuesday, May 16th, 2023. Time: 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the middle/high school office. Come in and fill out a waiver, Donna Schantz will run a background check, and once passed the ISD technology personnel will issue you a card that can be used anytime during nonschool hours. We are very excited to offer this opportunity to our community.
A huge thank you and shout out to Sharon Norman from the CAN Council who came and educated our 7th and 8th-grade students on safe internet and social media usage.
Congratulations to the seniors who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher while participating in an academic competition or an athletic competition during their senior year of high school. These students were honored on Monday, May 8th, at the Mid-State Activities Conference, All-Academic/Athletic Award Banquet. The banquet was held at Island Park in Mt. Pleasant.
Bulldogs shine at the MITES competition this past weekend at Heritage High School. This year our Middle and High School students Participated in the MITES Regional. We took 19 woodworking pieces and Mr. King was proud to announce that 19 of them qualified for the State Competition. The students that qualified for the state competition had to place 1st to 4th place at the Regional to move on to the state competition. The Stae Competition will take place on May 11-13 it is free to anyone interested in seeing the projects. Our Students did an amazing job this year. Great job Mr. King and students more information and pictures to come this week.
ST. CHARLES ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY PARADE AND SERVICE
The annual St. Charles Memorial Day Parade and Service will be held Monday, May
29 th. The parade will begin at 10:00 am. Staging for the parade will take place in the
parking lot of Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The service will
follow after the parade (approximately 10:45 am). The program will be
conducted on the boulevard in front of the American Legion Hall in St. Charles. For
additional information, please call 989 860-9994. Following the program, a brief
memorial service will be held at each of the local cemeteries, beginning with Swan
Creek Township Cemetery at approximately 12:30 pm, then progressing to the WWII
Veterans Memorial, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marian Township Cemetery, Brant Cemetery, and Riverside Cemetery at ¼ to ½ hour intervals. Each service will consist of a prayer, a rifle salute, and TAPS. Times are APPROXIMATE! It takes longer to get to some of the cemeteries than others. If you want to be there for the memorial service, please arrive early.

Congratulations Senior Devin Estrada who placed 3rd in Virtual Multimedia and Promotion at the 2023 National Business Professionals of America Competition. Devin was representing Saginaw Career Complex at the competition on the Virtual Multimedia and Promotion team. Great job Devin! We are proud of you!
MaKenna and Madisyn were selected to attend a Suicide Alertness Training on Monday, May 1st. Students learned how to respond to situations where suicidal thoughts may be present, recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked, and learn to dismiss the tendency to miss, dismiss and avoid the topic of suicide. This program was facilitated by Ms. Barb Smith who is a certified trainer and provides training across the nation. Thank you Madisyn and MaKenna.

It is Decision Day for our 2023 Senior class! At this very moment they are making memories with each other, as a class, by visiting the various areas set up to explore FUN options that lead to their future after graduation. Photos of this event will be posted shortly after the conclusion of this part of the day.
At approximately 11am, you will have the opportunity to tune in on our District Facebook page, as we go LIVE on Facebook to broadcast the final pieces of Decision Day where the senior students announce their "after high school plans". We will continue to go live for a 9-12th grade student assembly, as we send our seniors off.

The Mental Health Awareness month kick off celebration is in full swing in the MS/HS! Wednesday morning, students were greeted with some green swag to represent mental health awareness. Resources were available for information on coping skills and other events that will be happening this month including the self-care Bingo Challenge for students to be able to win prizes for completing self-care activities over the next couple of weeks. The winners of the door decorating contest were announced Thursday morning. Congrats to the winning classes, Mr. Wicke's 6th hour middle school class (Winnnie the Pooh door) and Mrs. Hunt's 6th hour high school class (cups of kindness door).

Students at St. Charles Middle/High School honored Mental Health Awareness Month today by decorating classroom doors. This is the criteria for the Door Decorating Contest
Who: Students
What: Decorate Doors for Mental Health Awareness
When: Wednesday, May 3rd - 6th hour
Where: 6th hour classroom
Why: To Promote Mental Health Awareness and kick off a
month-long celebration
How: Decorate your door to promote Mental Health. Paper is
available in the lounge. As a class, you can decide
how you would like to decorate your door. It can be anything
related to Mental Health - promoting awareness, self-care, a
specific concern, a positive quote, etc.
The winning class will receive ice cream!
Contest Guidelines:
1. Students must lead the project - coming up with the idea, producing the decorations, and decorating the door.
2. Ideas may be made ahead of time, but the actual door decorating process cannot begin
until the 6th hour.
3. Judging will take place on Thursday, May 4th - the winner will be announced by the end of
that day. The teacher can choose the date for the ice cream treat.
4. There will be two winners - One for Middle School and One for High School
5. Doors will be judged based on creativity, innovation, and completeness. Great job students and staff! A proud bulldog moment! Thank you Mrs. Kayla Petz for coordinating mental health awareness activities and information. The bling today was a special treat thank you!
